The full details of the tournament and the rules are written below, good luck should you take part.
Heat up your summer with the Mario Kart 7 family regionals
As the weather continues to heat up, so too does the latest competition from Nintendo. Designed to test the skills of gamers of all ages across the nation, the Britain’s Fastest Family Tournament is getting kids, mums, dads and even grandparents to pit their skills against others to find the quickest duo in the UK.
Throughout August, HMV stores all over Britain will be hosting Mario Kart games trials on the Nintendo 3DS for those who feel they can compete with the best of them. On the August 3rd and 4th, the tournament will take in HMV stores in Cardiff, Aberdeen, Gateshead, Plymouth, Sheffield, Croydon and Reading, before setting up shop in HMV stores in Norwich, Glasgow, Leeds, Southampton, Derby, Swansea, Guildford and Canterbury the following weekend.
On the 17th and 18th, the action heads to London’s Trocadero HMV store, as well as shops in Basingstoke, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol, Nottingham, Kingston and Milton Keynes. The final round of heats will take place the weekend afterwards at HMV Oxford, Oxford Circus, Newcastle, Birmingham, Brighton, Exeter and Liverpool with the lucky contestants at all of these regional heats in with a chance of heading to the Grand Final even that is scheduled to take part in October.
Not only will those who go on to the finals be given a shot at being unveiled as the fastest Mario Kart 7 family in the UK, but the overall winners will get to drive away a Honda Jazz 1.4-litre Si (red shells and banana skins not included), as well as a limited edition Mario Kart 7 winner’s trophy. Those who emerge victorious from the regional heats but aren’t quite quick enough to take the top prize can take some solace in the fact they’ll be receiving every game released on the Nintendo 3DS console for the entire year.
For those who want to get involved, entrance is free and the only real rules are that your team of two family members both be from a different generation. So, for example, a mum and son or daughter and grandfather would be fine, but you can’t just team up with your siblings. So if you’ve got an octogenarian who is addicted to his or her Nintendo 3DS, it might be time to take them for a day out at their local HMV!
Mario Kart 7 hit shelves across Europe in December 2011 and was one of the Mario games which headed straight to the top of the UK 3DS chart. Building on the success of its previous incarnations on Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance, GameCube and Wii, it added the extra feature of three-dimensional racing.
